The #1 Sin of Fundraising For Organizations

Over thirty years of fundraising I have found the hardest money to raise for an organization is debt money—you need to avoid it like a plague—make plans to avoid it.

Observations from a donors perspective:

Why did you get in debit in the first place? Didn’t you see it coming? Why didn’t you take the steps to solve it?

Donors want to give to vision not debt.

The #1 Sin of Fundraising is putting your organization in the position where you attempt to raise debt money. At a later date I will address debt for an individual raising support. Most people have it (college debt, car, house, etc.) and it certainly needs to be approached with a balanced strategy.

People Raising - A Practical Guide to Raising Support by Bill Dillon
"The idea of raising support was just an anathema for me. The reconstructing of some of my twisted thinking was most helpful. The energy and the sacredness of this presence is something that I will keep in me. I came somewhat disparaged and discouraged and I'm leaving very hope filled."
